Did you Know the Following

About Pieta

Pieta was founded in Dublin in 2006 and was established to provide free, accessible support to people affected by suicide and self-harm. Pieta now has over 20 centres nationwide with over 300 staff and offers a variety of supports to people impacted by suicide and self-harm, completely FREE of charge.

24-hour Crisis Helpline - Pieta’s Crisis Helpline is a vital frontline support for anyone in suicidal distress. It is manned by fully qualified therapists, and it is open 24 hours a day seven days a week. Every year, the Pieta Crisis Helpline receives nearly 100,000 calls and texts. That is almost 300 calls and texts per day.

Suicide Bereavement Liaison Service - This unique Pieta service offers practical and emotional support to families in the immediate aftermath of a loss to suicide.

One-to-One Professional Counselling - Every year, Pieta therapists provide personalised, one-to-one therapy to around 7,000 people both in person and via phone and video.

Amber Flag - Pieta is working to end suicide by raising awareness and help people build resilience. Our Amber Flag programme promotes mental health awareness in schools, colleges, community groups and clubs across the country.

Specialised Counselling for Self-Harm - Pieta therapists specialise in working with those who are engaging in self harm and in providing support and counselling to the families of those who are self-harming.

Amber Flag for Business - Supportive and responsive organisations understand the needs of their workers, help to break down the stigma and discrimination surrounding mental health and focus on their worker's mental wellbeing.

Awareness Campaigns - Every year, Pieta launches a number of major nationwide awareness campaigns such as No More Silence.

Bereavement Counselling - Pieta is the largest suicide bereavement support service in Ireland. Every year Pieta offers vital long-term support to over 600 families whose lives have been torn apart by suicide. This counselling is also available in person or via phone and video.

Pieta is 80% funded by fundraising events like Darkness Into Light. Last year, we raised over €4 million for people impacted by suicide and self-harm. Without our Darkness Into Light supporters, Pieta couldn’t provide vital services to people impacted by suicide and self-harm for FREE. You can learn more about Pieta services here.

Every person that registers will automatically receive a fundraising page. This page is here to support you with your Darkness Into Light fundraising. Share your page with friends, family, colleagues, and community members and ask them to donate to your page. Fundraising is a great way to increase your involvement in Darkness Into Light and support even more people impacted by suicide and self-harm. We have some great fundraising tools available.

Remember, every euro you raise contributes to Pieta services. As little as €12 can answer one call to our 24-hour crisis helpline. You can make a real impact.

'WAR IS NOT THE ANSWER' Statement from the Irish Bishops on

On the second day of the Spring General Meeting of the Irish Catholic Bishops’ Conference in Maynooth, bishops published the following statement calling for peace in the Middle East:

‘Yet again, the people of the Middle East are experiencing an unjust war with the loss of innocent lives.  War is utterly destructive.  In an era of change and readjustment of geopolitical balances and cultural paradigms, war is not the answer.  No political leader has the authority to unleash war at will.

The uncertainty incited by the current situation in the Middle East is destabilising for the world on many fronts – politically, socially and economically.  This is a time for international diplomacy to work for peace based on justice.

We are particularly mindful of the Irish citizens who are in the various countries of the region at present, including members of the Irish Defence Forces on peacekeeping duties.  This is a very worrying time for them and for their families.  We assure them all of our prayers during these days.

We pray too for those innocent lives lost, and for all those people and families who carry injuries and trauma.

We join with Pope Leo XIV in calling on all parties involved to ‘assume the moral responsibility of halting the spiral of violence before it becomes an unbridgeable chasm’ (Angelus, 1 March 2026).

As the Holy Father also noted in his recent address to diplomats, ‘All of this suffering, anxiety and fear reminds us how much the world needs to turn to God, who alone is peace.  In this season of Lent, let us pray for peace, fast from words and acts of hatred and conflict and discover anew the life-giving peace that Jesus Christ brings us – ‘my own peace I give you, a peace that the world cannot give…’ (John 14:27).  Let us keep to the fore Pope Leo’s timely

Prayer Intention for March 2026: ‘that nations move towards effective disarmament, particularly nuclear disarmament, and that world leaders choose the path of dialogue and diplomacy instead of violence and war’.

At this moment of great tension and volatility for the people of the Middle East, and for the world, we ask for prayers for peace and healing; that the voices of hatred will be replaced by a politics dedicated to upholding the God-given dignity of every human person, the common good and solidarity with those in need.
